Magicka is an action-adventure game developed by Arrowhead Game Studios. It is also four player co-op madness.

The gameplay of Magicka revolves around the use of elements and combining them in effective ways to defeats enemies and solve puzzles. You play as a lone non talkative mage in the land of Midgård. Midgård being a bright colourful world, full of funny pop culture references and hidden secrets.

After a brief tutorial you are given the task to basically save Midgard by yourself or with a friend with the guidence of Vlad (the guy who looks and acts like a vampire but claims he’s not)

Co-op is where all the fun is as you can combine laser spells to make a larger more powerful laser that can destroy enemies more effectively.

During your journey you discover spell books (some hidden) that help you on your bizarre  journey. Some spells seem to be more effective than others like summoning a friendly element compared to others like summoning death who is effective in killing yet he may come after you.

There are many varieties of enemies you will face on your journey and during my single player play through I couldn’t shake the feeling that there where so many enemies I had to encounter at once. that it just seemed like it wanted me to play with a friend (and then I did). Not that it was a bad thing as it was a blast multiplayer (Literally! Basting a friend into lava is fun).

Have at you!

Playing the game with multiple people is where the game truly shines as you have to co-ordinate with each other so you (as a famous movie said) “Don’t cross the beams” and end up killing yourself or a friend.

It’s a pity the game is short and there is no real PVP mode, but the developers themselves have said they plan to add more to the game.(Hoping it’s not a paid DLC).

In the end the game is fun but it feels like it can be much more. Whether the developers draw the full potential out of this title or not. As it stands the game is well done even with the multiplayer bugs on launch.

Here’s hoping for more.
