Just Cause 2 Multiplayer Beta

Let’s talk about a certain multiplayer mod this time in video form.

Men of War: Vietnam

Men of War: Vietnam is a RTS game developed by 1C Company and published by 1C Publishing EU.

Men of War is back in a new time and location and with a more focused story campaign. Vietnam is also the first in the series to be set in a different time period and because of this we get more modern vehicles and weapons such as helicopters (Get to the chopper!).

Newcomers to Men of War will probably feel targeted from the beginning (You have about 10 seconds to move your guys into cover at the start with no indication on how to actually play).

With the new setting comes a lot of change such as guns being more effective and tanks being more or less replaced by helicopters that roam battlegrounds. Because of these changes the strategy you used in the previous games will have to change to incorporate more guerrilla warfare tactics.

Oddly enough the superb controls from the previous MoW (WASD) game have been changed back to the old awkward controls of the earlier games in the series (↑←↓→).

Graphically the game hasn’t changed too much from the previous games but the new models for vehicles and weapons are great to look at. This in conjunction with the new campaign music helps immerse the player into the game. Unfortunately some game breaking bugs can shatter the immersion completely and can turn a simple “Get that object mission  into “Find that object that was absorbed into the ground and disappeared mission”.

1C Company provide a lot of patches for their released games so hopefully most bugs should be gone by the time you are reading this.

Co-op has also returned which will allow you to grab three other friends to play through the campaign. Unfortunately progress saving still hasn’t been implemented for multiplayer, which is problematic as most missions only give you control of a handful of soldiers  and unless you and your co-op buddies are pros, will often end in a “GAME OVER” very quickly.

Men of War: Vietnam is a game suited for players who can’t get enough Men of War.

Newcomers should probably look into Men of War: Assault Squad if they’re interested in the series.

Fresh new settings.

New vehicles.

Nice models.

Awesome campaign music.

The game takes some steps back.

Voices for soldiers haven’t changed.

  • There are two sides in every story, so two new story-driven campaigns attempt to show the war from both sides.
  • Breathtaking missions including an ambush on the Ho Chi Minh trail, a game of cat and mouse in the Mekong Delta, raids into Cambodia and Laos, bridge defense during the Tet offensive and more.
  • New weapons and units: M-16, T-54, M-113, Patton III, M-60, AK-47, M-14, RPG-2, M-72 LAW, RPK and many more.
  • Multiplayer mode – co-op for up to 4 players.

Rock of Ages

Rock of Ages is a RTS action game developed by the ACE Team and published by Atlus U.S.A Inc.

Humorous, fun and aesthetically unique are some words that would best describe Rock of the ages.

Your main objective in the game is to destroy the gate that leads to your opponents’ castle and squash their leader with your boulder; but there’s a catch, in order to get to your opponents gate you must destroy/avoid their defences using your platforming skills and reflexes. If your rock takes too much damage it will shrink and you won’t be able to inflict as much damage. Your opponent will also be attacking your castle gate at the same time as you do in order to achieve the same objective (Squash your opponents’ leader inside their respective castle). In order to minimise damage to your own gate and to slow your opponent down, you must place defences like towers, TNT and sheep (Yes, sheep). Defences cost money and the main way to gain money is to crush objects with your rock. Placing your fortifications in random places will generally be ineffective and a waste of money. Most of the maps  have ideal choke points that you must utilise to your advantage.

Party time!

Roll and smash your way through the hilarious single player campaign where you take on the role of Sisyphus and travel through time defeating historical figures and undertaking epic boss battles or go head-to-head with your friends in 2-Player battles.

Rock of Ages is a humorous game and a lot of fun to play. It’s definitely worth a look.

Unique theme.

Fun to play.

The Stanley Parable

The Stanley Parable is a free mod that is Developed and published by Cakebreak.

Released in July of this year, The Stanley Parable is a much talked about FPS experimental narrative-driven mod. Why? Because it’s so good.

The Stanley Parable is so good that the creators are remaking it to be bigger and better, less than a month after it was released.

You play as Stanley (No way!), you have no guns and you have only one goal, to journey through your story. Without giving too much away you’ll have to make choices and each choice will lead you to a different ending. With a total of six different endings this is a game that you can’t just play once, and you will want to play it more than once, simply because it’s so good.

The games all about the journey, not the destination.

You must play this. That’s all I can say. It’s free so download, install and then play it. Enjoy!

Enjoyable experience.

Wonderful voice acting.

A new and fresh take on the FPS genre.

Some low resolution textures

We want more!

Pirates of Black Cove

Pirates of Black Cove is an action real-time game developed by Nitro Games and published by Paradox Interactive.

Set in the 16th century when pirates roamed the Caribbean, Pirates of Black Cove sets you on a journey to earn fame and fortune on the high seas.

You start the game by selecting one of the three starting characters each with their own background story and play styles. From then on you complete missions for different factions, hire more shipmates, buy and subsequently upgrade ships.

Gameplay takes place both on land and at sea (Yarr!), the latter being much more exciting. Land battles are like a fairly standard RTS game. You attack units and buildings and use your characters special abilities to help out. It’s not particularly deep but it does add another dimension to the game. Sea battles are very similar to Sid Meier’s Pirates!. You move your ship around the ocean firing cannons and using special abilities to damage your opponent’s ship. It’s not bad but it could have been much more enjoyable if it borrowed some more features and gameplay mechanics from Sid Meier’s Pirates. Gameplay along with the story is also riddled with wacky humour from numerus pop culture references to collectable pirate inspired jokes.

Pirates of Black Cove isn’t a deep game but its humour and the boss battles make up for it. Check out the demo if you’re interested in Pirate games with lots of humour.

Bright and cheerful graphics

Funny at times

Open world.

Different unit types.

Not very deep.

  • Roam the open World with your Pirate crew and pick up missions as you sail the seas.
  • Notoriety and fame brings you closer to your ultimate goal: the King of All Pirates
  • Battle it out with rival pirates and nations on both land and sea
  • Experience life as a pirate through three campaigns and eras
  • Gather famous pirates to your crew, but be sure to keep them supplied with rum or they’ll side with your rivals
  • Select your character from several different Pirate Captains, each with their own unique skills and features!

E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy

E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy is an action RPG developed and published by Streum On Studio.

From the Cyberpunk look and feel to the deep RPG elements, E.Y.E is a game that will remind you of the ever popular Deus Ex series. Of course E.Y.E has its own flavour inserted into the mix.

E.Y.E is a complex game and this is evident from the beginning of your adventure. After creating a character and tweaking a variety of stats, players will undergo a tutorial level which will show the basics of game play and also watch a variety of video tutorials. While these tutorials are helpful they only explain the basics of the game, advanced tasks are not covered. E.Y.E also includes an overcomplicated UI that will be hard to settle into, but once things start to flow you’ll truly begin to appreciate the kind of game E.Y.E really is.

Combat is fun and enjoyable, especially in Co-op. There are a wide variety of weapons and items to choose from (Which all look and feel great) and there are even more to unlock with money earned through the game. Unlike some of the other FPS games out there, enemies only take a realistic amount of damage before they go down.

With large non-linear levels, a wide variety of weapons and upgrades and a fantastic Cyberpunk background, E.Y.E is a game that brings a lot to the table, while not all of it feels polished, it is a game that cyberpunk and shooter fans alike should take a look at.

Fantastic environments.

Large open levels.

Fluid combat.

Fun Co-op

Large variety of levels.

Rough around the edges.

Complicated UI.

  • Multiplayer co-op modes directly influence solo play, and vice-versa. The limits of solo and multiplayer games are finally left behind.
  • Psychological and mental trauma management.
  • 25 weapons, different shooting modes, dynamic precision, drilling shots, iron sighting, extended zoom.
  • Complete hacking system with game play impact
  • 9 devastatingly subtle PSI powers.
  • More than 20 NPC with non-scripted, fully reactive and efficient AI, endowed with a sense of initiative. Bloody close combat with technical detail. Incredible physical movement realism thanks to Source Engine physics.
  • Excellent replayability – primary and secondary missions, dynamic environments, non-linear level progression, and random NPC spawn, type and appearance. Death doesn’t penalize players: no need to restart the current mission.
  • Open-level gameplay for hours of fun without reloading.
  • System Requirements

Dead Horde

Dead  Horde is a top down zombie shooter developed and published by Dns Development.

Dead Horde is all about fast pasted zombie blasting. You will be given a verity of weapons and vehicles to achieve this, which can be purchased and upgraded to enable more efficient zombie eradication.

Controls are simple enough that a tutorial isn’t needed (Also not included) which allows you to grab a buddy to play with. Co-op is definitely more fun than playing with oneself.

Playing co-op is a much more enjoyable experience as combat can get repetitive fast.

Ever since the zombie craze started there have been many zombie shooters that have risen from the gaming underworld. Some good, others not so good. Dead Horde tries to distinguish itself from the pack by providing a co-op campaign with fast paced combat and a little bit of vehicular action thrown in. Whilst these inclusions do add more meat to the game, those who aren’t interested in arcade games should probably look elsewhere for their zombie fix. Those who are interested grab a buddy and send those zombies back into the ground.

Constant patches.

Co-op is fun.

Vehicle combat is a great addition.

Fast past action.

Nice upgrade system.

Different zombie types.

Zombies spawn out of nowhere.

Gets repetitive.

Repetitive animations.

  • Dead Horde is an action packed, co-op top down, survival-horror shooter
  • Play the campaign in single-player, local co-op or online co-op with a friend
  • Make your way through the levels with a huge variety of weapons. Use assault rifles, shotguns, grenades, mini-guns and a lot more to unlock during the game
  • Fast paced action with seemingly never ending hordes of mutants.
  • Mutants evolve and become bigger, faster and stronger throughout the game.
  • Use vehicles solo or with a teammate to fight the mutants
  • Earn money by killing mutants and buy and upgrade weapons
